The uncertainty about when the 2016 National Basketball League shall tip-off is finally over.
The Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) has confirmed the annual league shall tip-off on Friday, May 6.
Following the conclusion of the annual season curtain raiser, the Friday Night Lights (FNL) nearly a fortnight ago and pre-season invitational tournaments at KIU and UCU earlier on, all the ball fans were waiting to know when league basketball gets underway.
Earlier communication had indicated the league was to start on April 1 but because of a delay in the start of FNL, the start of the leagues was postponed but no specific date had been set.
Part of the communication from federation reads;
...our leagues were scheduled to commence on the 1st day of April 2016 as per the FUBA calendar 2016. However, due to unavoidable circumstances and in a bid to have an impetus and grand launch of the leagues, we were forced to postpone the start...
Nasser Sserunjogi, the FUBA Vice President - Administration confirms the NBL (Men and Women) shall tip-off on Friday, May 6 and the lower leagues will get underway the next day.
...the National Basketball League will commence on the 6th day of May 2016 and thereafter the Division One and D-League will commence on the 7th day of May 2016...
City Oilers and UCU Lady Canons are the defending champions in the Men and Women's divisions respectively.
The City Oilers are scheduled to take on their challengers for this season KIU Titans while UCU Lady Canons will also take on their main challengers for the season JKL Lady Dolphins at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium.
